[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="640"] Blazer Hall, the site of the current athletics cafeteria on the north side of campus[/caption] Last night, Governor Bevin approved a $21 million proposal from UK to renovate, expand, and improve the Wildcat Coal Lodge, which led to some confusion because the Lodge is already really nice, right? If you listened to today's show, you heard Matt clarify the situation. Here's what we've heard. Because of some twisted state funding laws, UK must ask for permission from the Kentucky government to spend its own money when it's in excess of $600,000, which is kind of a hassle when you consider that UK is the only school in the SEC that has to do this. Regardless, while the proposal referenced upgrades to the Lodge, the $21 million will actually be spent on an expanded eating facility for all athletes on the north side of campus, a necessity since Blazer Hall, a dormitory that also houses a cafeteria for athletes, will be torn down once the new student center is completed in 2018. Also of note: UK asked for funding for a new baseball stadium, but that was apparently turned down by the governor, a shame because that's one of the few facilities in which UK kind of lags behind when compared to the rest of the league. Nick will be by with more details about some other items approved in the budget proposal here in a bit.
