The ripple effects from the Minnesota Vikings’ coaching staff shake up continue to make waves at the University of Kentucky. Quality control analyst Greg Manusky is the latest member of Mark Stoops’ staff to depart. He’ll coach inside linebackers for the Vikings next season.

When the Vikings fired Mike Zimmer, they had two choices: Jim Harbaugh or Kevin O’Connell. When Minnesota opted to go with the Rams offensive coordinator instead of the Michigan head coach, it set the wheels in motion to lose two members of UK’s staff. Liam Coen replaced O’Connell in Los Angeles, the most significant change of the offseason.

Tuesday O’Connell officially announced the addition of Manusky. Even though he was small potatoes on the totem pole compared to Coen, Manusky played a big part in Brad White’s defense. An NFL defensive coordinator for a dozen seasons, for the last two years Manusky was the old head in the room, crunching tape and bouncing ideas off White. A charismatic Football Guy, you may remember him from his one and only appearance on Kentucky Sports Radio when he let an F-Bomb slip.

There is another addition to the staff that can fill Manusky’s “old head” role, Mike Stoops. Mark’s older brother has decades of coaching experience as a defensive coordinator. Unlike Manusky, who spent three seasons playing for Minnesota in the early 90s, Mike Stoops will also juggle recruiting duties while coaching Kentucky’s linebackers alongside White. With Manusky’s move, the coaching carousel appears to have (finally) stopped turning in Lexington.
