At the half, the South Carolina Gamecocks lead Kentucky by a score of 10-6 in Lexington.

Kentucky opened the game running the ball effectively, but went away from it for the rest of the first quarter. The offensive line struggled in the passing game, which was exacerbated when starting right tackle Gerald Mincey went down with a lower leg injury. He returned near the end of the first half. South Carolina struck first in the middle of the first quarter when LaNorris Sellers found Mazeo Bennett for a 24-yard touchdown.

A big 32-yard catch from Dane Key on the next possession put Kentucky in good shape, but three straight plays resulted in a loss of downs and forced a punt. The ‘Cats punted four times in the first quarter. Sellers would exit with an injury of his own in the first quarter but returned in the second. A 29-yard field goal made it 10-0 in favor of South Carolina with 8:06 left in the half.

Kentucky went back to the run game the next time out, leaning heavily on Demie Sumo-Karngbaye by marching down the field for a short 32-yard field goal to make it 10-3 with under two minutes before the half. The Wildcats caught a huge break on the next possession when Sellers lobbed a ball straight into Ty Bryant‘s hands for an interception and great field position for UK.

It didn’t result in a touchdown but Alex Raynor knocked through another field goal from 39 yards out to make it 10-6 at the break. Check out the halftime box score below along with a video of the sights and sounds from the pregame kickoff.
