A Hilarious New Transfer Portal Development

We often refer to this time of the year as Silly Season (or SZN, whichever you prefer). After all, how ridiculous is it that college football programs are supposed to sign a high school class, then recruit free agents from the transfer portal, all while preparing for the postseason? It makes no sense whatsoever.

College football has a pension for the ridiculous — it’s why we love it so much — and the latest development in the transfer portal might be the silliest thing I’ve ever seen covering the sport.

Over the last week, the biggest transfer portal news for Kentucky fans has been about who is officially visiting the school. What if I told you that some transfer portal players are now taking visits to schools they already attended?

On3’s Pete Nakos reports that Keeshawn Silver is considering a trip to North Carolina. The former Kentucky defensive tackle is from Rocky Mount, North Carolina and spent two years in powder blue before making the move to Lexington.

At least in Silver’s case, there is a reason why he would consider returning to the campus and potentially returning to the program. They hired Bill Freaking Belichick. He’s already logged four visits, why not see what the Super Bowl Champ has to offer?

He’s not alone. Cornerback Cameron Calhoun, a one-time UK commit from Cincinnati, was a member of Michigan’s National Championship team. He transferred to Utah for the 2024 season. Now he’s back on the move and guess what school he’s visiting this December? The one he attended last December.

What’s going to happen on Calhoun’s visit? Are they going to show him the facilities he spent a year working out in, or the dorm where he used to live? He should know the place well enough to correct his campus tour guide’s mistakes.

Change your mind and want to go back to your old school? Fine, but it feels like some might be taking a visit just to take a visit because they love being recruited. Maybe I’m old and out of touch, but transfer portal players taking visits to schools they’ve already attended is the silliest thing about silly season.
