Tshiebwe (the horse) finishes third at Keeneland

Tshiebwe competed in Lexington on Friday, but I’m not talking about Oscar. A thoroughbred, who adopted the name Tshiebwe after the former National Player of the Year, took the track in Race 10 at Keeneland on Friday.
While sports betting might not quite be legal in Kentucky yet, basketball fans who love the human version of Oscar and attended Keeneland got an opportunity to place a wager on the equine version.
Trained by the infamous Todd Pletcher and owned by WinStar Farm LLC, Tshiebwe is a 3-year-old colt sired by Race Day.
In the 1 1/16 mile race for 3-year-olds, Maiden Special Weight with a $100,000 purse, Tshiebwe started in the 10th post position and went off with 5/2 odds, no doubt due in part to his namesake and his high-profile trainer.

Alas, sort of like March Madness, Tshiebwe came up a little short, finishing third behind the favorite Bourbon Resolve and St. John’s. Somewhere, Rick Pitino is smiling.
This was Tshiebwe’s fifth start in this lifetime and he has career winnings of about $56,000. He has two other second-place finishes, one of which occurred during Keeneland’s fall meet in 2022.
Watch him do work, and if you bet on him, hopefully, it was just to show.
