Houston Rockets sign Willie Cauley-Stein to 10-day contract
Everyone’s favorite combo basketball player-sidewalk chalk artist is back in the NBA. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported on Monday morning the Houston Rockets are signing Willie Cauley-Stein to a 10-day contract. The former Kentucky center has one of the more interesting personalities you’ll find in the game and it is great to see him back on an NBA roster, even if it is just for 10 days.
Cauley-Stein attended training camp with the Rockets before being waived and has spent 10 games playing for their G-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he is averaging 9.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game in 10 games played. He will join Kentucky rookie and freshly-minted starter, TyTy Washington, in Houston.

This will mark Willie’s fifth team in eight seasons as the veteran looks to find a long-term home in the league. His best stint in the NBA came with the Sacramento Kings during his third and fourth seasons in the league, which saw him start nearly every game and average a double-double.
More recently, Cauley-Stein has gone through some personal struggles but appears to be in a better spot now. Let’s hope he can find a home with the Houston Rockets.
