During the weekend of the Kentucky-Auburn football game, 2026 four-star point guard Maddyn Greenway was on campus for her official visit to Kentucky.

Soon after the visit, Greenway narrowed her list of schools down to six, and Kentucky made the cut. Greenway talked with KSR about why that’s the case.

“Basically, this starts with the coaches,” Greenway revealed. “I mean, Coach [Kenny] Brooks recruited me pretty heavily at Virginia Tech. I just think when he made the switch to Kentucky and the SEC, and seeing all the girls that followed him and what he was continuing to build there really excited me. I love his approach with point guards. He really loves how I play, and I really push the pace and look to score and be aggressive. I think he really loves that out of his point guard.”

Additionally, her visit to Lexington only made her feel even stronger about Kentucky. She could really feel just how much the BBN is rallying around the program, and that meant a lot to her.

“So, just being able to have a coach that has recruited me hard, loves how I play, is huge for me,” Greenway explained. “And then just being able to see the campus too. I loved it before I went, I loved it even more after. The campus, I really felt like the basketball community was excited there for what he was building, obviously, with the boys having a great program. So, overall, it’s just really hard to cut down to six, and I was happy that they can make it.”

Regarding the visit itself, “it was awesome”, as Greenway put it.

“It was awesome. I was only recruit on the visit, which was cool. They really made it feel like I was wanted. They had everything planned out, and it was really cool. Like, he put me through some things. I got to see Georgia’s workout, which was cool for me to see what they do, and she’s obviously so experienced. I was like, it looks a little bit different. But just seeing that, the reps that they put in, really, you can see on the court that it pays off. I would say the football game — got to see that. That was cool. I always like to see the campus when there’s a football weekend, and just see what that’s really like.”

She added, “And the girls were amazing. We did a lot of stuff too. I hung out a lot with the girls, which is something, obviously, with me being older, I could possibly play with some of those girls. It was just cool to hang out with them and get to see campus from their point of view. It was awesome. My sisters loved it. They all got to come, so they had a bunch of staff members helping them because I have three little sisters. It was just awesome. Being able to see the energy around the basketball community was pretty cool for me because you don’t see that at every college.”

Greenway is set to announce her commitment here in just a few weeks. Could Kenny Brooks be on the cusp of securing his true first high school commitment since his arrival in Lexington?
