Ilinois transfer Jacob Grandison commits to Duke
Illinois transfer Jacob Grandison will not be a Kentucky Wildcat. Instead, the 6-foot-6 wing will be joining the Duke Blue Devils.
“It became clear that I fit with the vision that Coach Scheyer has for Duke basketball,” Grandison told On3. ”I’m an elite passer to anyone. I’m a shooter and I space the floor. I am an elite cutter and I’ve proven myself to be a great decision maker. I’m poised under pressure and I play to win. Duke is winning.”
Grandison previously considered Kentucky, USC, BYU, UCLA, DePaul, Arizona, Iowa State, Michigan, Oregon before choosing Duke on Saturday. He took an official visit to Durham this week.
Kentucky was seen as an early potential option for Grandison, but nothing ever developed beyond exploratory conversations.

The former Illini wing averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 2021-22, shooting 41.0% from three on nearly five attempts per game. He attended Illinois the last two seasons, but was forced to sit out in 2019-20 after transferring to the program due to NCAA rules. Grandison previously played two seasons at Holy Cross from 2017 to 2019 before his move to Champaign.
He will have one year of college eligibility remaining with the Blue Devils.
What does this mean for Kentucky? Well, it appears the team’s roster is set for 2022-23, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering no other high-level options are available at this point in time in the transfer portal or high school ranks. John Calipari also said last week that the ”whole team” had arrived on campus, indicating he wasn’t in any rush to add pieces to the roster.
What do you think, BBN? Are you comfortable with the 2022-23 roster as-is?
