Bethlehem (KY) High School’s Leah Macy is considered a top 15 prospect from the class of 2025. But instead of staying in the Bluegrass, the talented five-star is heading out of state.

Macy announced through social media on Monday that she has committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Originally from Louisville, the 6-foot-2 forward is ranked No. 14 overall in her class, per ESPN. She chose Notre Dame over the likes of Louisville and UConn.

Kentucky was reportedly among her group of finalists, as well, having been recruited by former head coach Kyra Elzy for multiple years. However, Macy never publicly announced a re-offer from new head coach Kenny Brooks, who was hired in late March.

Macy is one of two 2025 five-star recruits from the state of Kentucky. ZaKiyah Johnson, a 6-foot guard for three-time defending state champion Sacred Heart Academy, is ranked No. 7 by ESPN and remains uncommitted. Johnson was re-offered by UK on April 1 and has the Wildcats among her top options.

After beginning her high school basketball career at Elizabethtown (where she played varsity beginning in seventh grade), Macy then spent two years seasons at Mercy Academy before transferring to Bethlehem last offseason. As a junior, she averaged 25 points and 13.8 rebounds per game (both team-highs) on 67.3 percent shooting while leading the Banshees to the second round of the Girls’ Sweet 16 Tournament. For her career, she has over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.

The Fighting Irish, led by fourth-year head coach Niele Ivey, are coming off a second straight Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24. That team was fueled by freshman star Hannah Hidalgo, a former five-star recruit who was tabbed as an All-American in her first college season.

Macy is Notre Dame’s first class of 2025 commitment. Coach Ivey has now landed five top 20 prospects from the 2023-25 classes.
