In-state PG Travis Perry down to 5 schools, commitment set for Sunday
Travis Perry, Kentucky high school basketball’s all-time leading scorer, is ready to make his college decision. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Perry is set to choose between Alabama, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Western Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3:00 p.m. EST.
Perry, a 6-foot-2 point guard out of Eddyville (KY) Lyon County, is considered the No. 87 overall prospect in the class of 2024 by the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s visited all five of his finalists, although the trips to Kentucky and Western Kentucky were unofficial visits. The Wildcats offered him a scholarship in June 2022 and most recently brought him to Lexington in October for Big Blue Madness.
That being said, the sense coming down the home stretch is that Perry will not ultimately land at Kentucky. The Early Signing Period starts on Wednesday, November 8th, and will run through November 15th.
Perry broke the state’s all-time scoring record on March 16 during the 2023 UK Healthcare Boy’s Sweet 16 Tournament inside Rupp Arena, surpassing Wayland’s Kelly “King” Coleman’s (1953-56) previous mark of 4,337 career points. Perry broke the record on a free throw in the third quarter. He was named the 2022-23 Gatorade Kentucky Boys Basketball Player of the Year prior to leading Lyon County to the Elite 8 after putting up per-game averages of 32.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 4.7 steals in the regular season.

Going into Perry’s senior season, Lyon County will be among the favorites to make it back to Rupp Arena in the spring. The Lyons open the 2023-24 season on the road against Livingston Central on Dec. 5. By that point, he’ll have made his college decision. Ole Miss and Cincinnati have been mentioned most frequently throughout his recruiting process. Perry officially visited the Rebels in September and the Bearcats in October.
“I’ve always been about the relationships, going somewhere and having a good relationship with the head coach and coaching staff, all of the people there involved. That’s something that’s really big,” Perry said on Sunday AM Sports Talk last month. “You’re going to be spending every day with the staff and this group of players, so just knowing you’re going to be comfortable there. The style of play is important for me, how they play and approach the game. I want to go somewhere where the coach and players want to win as bad as I do, have that drive and work willingly every day toward that goal.”
The state’s top-ranked player is less than a week away from making his decision. Where will he land?
