In-state star Gabe Weis scores Big Blue Madness invite
Welcome to the show, Gabe Weis. Previously unknown in the sophomore class nationally, the ’26 standout out of Springfield, KY has burst onto the scene as a potential five-star, top-100 talent.
And the offers have followed. It started with Tennessee Tech and Bethel College, then Ohio and LSU, followed by Illinois, Cincinnati and Iowa, among others. The 6-7, 180-pound wing picked up two new offers on Thursday, Texas A&M and Nebraska, while also receiving a very important invite.
Following a productive trip to Lexington to watch the Kentucky Wildcats practice on Wednesday, the Washington County star was added to the long list of impressive visitors set to attend Big Blue Madness next week, a source tells KSR.
Weis averaged 11.5 points on 53.9% shooting and 27.8% from three while adding 7.0 rebounds per contest as a freshman at Washington County. He then followed it up with a standout grassroots season suiting up for Team Phenom United on the 16U 3SSB circuit. That’s where his athleticism and versatility shined on the national stage, leading to an explosion of offers in recent months.
What would a scholarship from John Calipari and the home-state Kentucky Wildcats mean to the Springfield native?
“My whole town would go crazy. It would be a great opportunity, great experience to have that offer under my belt and keep in the back of my head,” Weis told KSR. “I don’t really expect them to right now, they wait until (recruits’) junior and senior years to start really recruiting people. I’m just going to be patient with it.”

And what does he like about the Wildcats?
“John Calipari gets players to the NBA,” Weis added. “That’s a pretty huge thing to have and be known for.”
Things are ramping up between Kentucky and Weis — but the Wildcats will have some competition. Picking up new high-major offers seemingly by the day at this point, the 6-7 forward is one of the nation’s fastest risers.
