Kentucky has plenty to play for in the VRBO Citrus Bowl. Iowa just gave them one more reason.

Cats Illustrated’s Justin Rowland un-Earthed a clip from December when Iowa players met with the media after learning they would play Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl. Senior All-Big Ten cornerback Riley Moss tried to commend the Cats. Instead, Moss (36 tackles, 4 INTs) delivered an insult.

“It’s going to be fun,” said Moss. “Kentucky’s going to give us their best shot. They haven’t made a bowl game in, how long? So they’re going to come out and punch us in the mouth. We’re going to come out and do the same. It’ll be a good experience and it’ll be a hard fought game for sure.”

As you probably recall, Kentucky can win its fourth straight bowl game this Saturday in its sixth consecutive postseason appearance.

Did Moss mean any harm in his slip of tongue? Probably not. I doubt the Kentucky football program is on his radar at all during the season. After all, this will be the first ever meeting between the teams from the SEC and Big Ten.

Well intentions aside, Kentucky does not care. They love to be doubted by outsiders and it hasn’t happened nearly enough entering this New Year’s Day bowl game. Vince Marrow loved to see it.

Wan’Dale Robinson had the funniest response. “Aye I know I ain’t been, but he can’t be talking bout y’all.”

Mark Stoops football teams are at their best when they are playing with a chip on their shoulder. If they did not have one before, this jab from Iowa’s Riley Moss just might do the trick.
