J.J. Weaver is right at home ripping Louisville

The history of the Kentucky-Louisville rivalry is full of unlikely heroes, but there are none more memorable than in-state kids getting their moment against the Cardinals. Rajon Rondo. Jared Lorenzen. Dominique Hawkins. Kash Daniel. There’s just something special about seeing a home-grown kid bury a dagger in the back of the team down the road.
After Saturday’s latest butt-whooping at Cardinal Stadium, add J.J. Weaver to the list.
The sophomore out of Louisville made himself known in a big way against his hometown school, grabbing the game-sealing interception in UK’s 52-21 win:
After the game — in addition to straight-up laughing at the fact that the Cards were favored — Weaver didn’t hesitate to express how good it felt to put the nail in them himself, especially after last year’s contest was canceled.
“This win means so much to me,” Weaver said after the win. “We hadn’t played Louisville in two years, so this was great.”

But of course, it had to mean a little more for him. After all, Louisville was the first team to offer Weaver a scholarship, way back in 2016 when he was still a sophomore at Moore. They had the inside track; so how did he end up in Lexington?
Apparently, Scott Satterfield got in the way.
“Coach Satterfield, it didn’t feel like he wanted me enough,” said Weaver when asked about the decision. “Bobby [Petrino] put all this into the in-state kids. Coach Satterfield, he didn’t show like he cared for us.”
Oof. Talk about adding insult to injury for the Cardinals. But hey, I guess they were covered on defense. When you’ve got a tough-knit group of guys that can – *checks notes* – give up 113 rushing yards to Will Levis… you can’t complain?
Regardless, the young man seems pretty satisfied with his decision.
“I can’t stop smiling,” Weaver said. “I been smiling since the clock hit zero. It’s a blessed feeling.”
