Jaland Lowe is mic'd up (and locking up) at Kentucky basketball practice

The whispers are no longer whispers, they’re screams at this point. Jaland Lowe hasn’t just met early expectations in Lexington, he’s exceeded them, providing truly elite quickness and playmaking at the point guard spot while also making shots and stepping up as a leader.
“We think he’s going to take a massive jump,” Mark Pope said of Lowe this summer. “He’s been special for us.”
“I mean, the hype is as real as it gets,” assistant coach Mikhail McLean added. “He’s a playmaker. He can score at will, but he’s taking a lot of pride in becoming an elite playmaker, in taking — the shot quality, taking the best shots available. He’s taken a big step as a defender.”
You’ll be able to see it for yourself next week at UK Pro Day on Tuesday, followed by Big Blue Madness on Saturday, October 11. Until then, though, how about some behind-the-scenes footage of Lowe showing off just how good he can be in a mic’d up segment shared by the Wildcats.
Enjoy four minutes of Lowe getting defensive stops on Mo Dioubate, Collin Chandler, Malachi Moreno, Braydon Hawthorne and Reece Potter, drilling 3-pointers, earning paint touches at will, finding teammates for assists and making sure no one says anything bad on the hot mic.

It’s not live game action like we’ll be seeing over the next few weeks and beyond, but it’ll certainly do the trick until then.
Lowe transferred to Kentucky after earning All-ACC honors at Pittsburgh a year ago, averaging 16.8 points, 5.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest for the Panthers. The team struggled in a bad conference at 17-15 overall and 8-12 in league play, but the counting stats were excellent for the former four-star recruit with efficiency leaving much to be desired.
Now, it’s time to see what he can do with better talent around him, suiting up for the biggest brand in college basketball.
I think he’s gonna do just fine, folks.
