We’re inching closer toward an announcement for the No. 1 prospect in all of high school basketball.

2022 five-star center Jalen Duren previously told KSR that he would like to make a final decision by the end of the summer, adding that he’s “not one of those guys who is going to wait just to wait.”

Now down to five options – he’s down to Kentucky, Memphis, Miami (FL), the G League and the NBL – Duren has confirmed that an announcement is on the horizon, telling Jason Jordan of Sports Illustrated that he plans to make a decision after Peach Jam. The prestigious grassroots event lasts from July 13-25, meaning a decision could be just weeks away at this point.

“I can tell you I have no idea what I want to do right now,” Duren told Jordan. “I’m gonna focus on the live period right now and then I will make a decision sometime after Peach Jam.”

In an interview with Travis Branham of 247Sports following his official visit to Lexington, Duren said he was impressed with Kentucky’s player development and how the school could prepare him for the NBA.

“Kentucky, their program speaks for itself, they got a crazy legacy,” said Duren. “Talking to coach Cal and his new coaching staff was great, even some of the new guys on campus, just getting a feel for everything. I had never been up there before so kind of seeing everything that they got to offer and them talking to me about my development and what he has done for past guys like me and where he has got them to and how he got them to be ready for that next level.”

As for a potential reclassification to the class of 2021 – a move Duren is widely expected to make after Peach Jam – the five-star center says he knows it’s a possibility, but isn’t taking it seriously at this point in time.

“I don’t even know where that came from,” Duren told Branham. “I know it’s an opportunity but I haven’t looked at it that much yet.”

Can Kentucky pull off the late surprise and add the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect to the 2021-22 roster just months before the season starts? It appears we’ll find out in the coming weeks.

Come on down.
