A former Kentucky Wildcat will play for another SEC school this fall. Defensive back Jamari Brown is now enrolled at Mississippi State, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz. Since he is a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to play this season.

Brown began his career at Kentucky in 2018 and transferred to Purdue following the 2020 season. After starting 13 games over two seasons with the Boilermakers, he entered the transfer portal last week, choosing to cut ties with the program ahead of its first season with former Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters as head coach. As you know, former Purdue coach Jeff Brohm took the job at Louisville last December.

Last fall, Brown had a team-high-tying three interceptions for the Boilermakers, one coming during the Big 10 Championship game vs. Michigan and the other in the Capital One Bowl vs. LSU. During his two seasons at Purdue, he totaled 47 tackles (39 solo), 10 pass breakups, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Brown, a three-star prospect in the 2018 class, redshirted his freshman season at Kentucky and in 2019, started three games, totaling 25 tackles, seven pass breakups, and one fumble recovery. Despite that success, he chose to leave Kentucky after that season due to injuries and the emergency of Brandin Echols. Now, he’ll finish his college career as a member of one of Kentucky’s top SEC rivals.

Brown is one of two former Wildcats on Mississippi State’s roster. Fellow defensive back Kobi Albert transferred to Mississippi State in January after one season at Kentucky. The Bulldogs host the Cats in Starkville on Nov. 4.
