Jamin Davis a frontrunner for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year
Jamin Davis is receiving his first reps with the entire Washington Football Team as training camps kick off across the National Football League. Ahead of the former Wildcat’s debut, one prognosticator believes Davis is poised to contend for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Taken with the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Davis joins a stacked Washington Football Team defense that finished fourth in the league last season. Tasked to fill the Team’s one void in the middle of the defense, Lance Zierlein foresees a fantastic starts to Davis’ career. The NFL.com writer ranked the top ten candidates for Defensive Rookie of the Year and Davis came in at No. 2.

With just 11 career college starts under his belt, Davis still has some polish to add to his game. However, he’s athletic, instinctive and very talented when asked to drop in space and cover on passing downs. Washington has the makings of a dominant defensive line that will disrupt blocking schemes on a regular basis, which should make Davis’ job that much easier in getting to the football and finishing plays. Productive linebackers are made for this award, and Davis fits the mold in Washington.
Davis trailed only Micah Parsons, the former Penn State middle linebacker that is projected to start for the Dallas Cowboys this fall. If you like Davis’ chances to take home the honor — after all, he has been compared to Darius Leonard — the odds are in your favor. Davis has value at 9/1 to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
The former Wildcat will take his first snaps on an NFL field against the New England Patriots in an Aug. 12 preseason game at Gillette Stadium. The Washington Football Team opens the regular season Sept. 12 at home against the L.A. Chargers, the team Davis rooted for as a child.
