Former Wildcat and 2021 first-round pick Jamin Davis made his mark during organized team activities (OTAs) this week, taking reps as the first-team middle linebacker.

Here’s the report from NBC Sports Insider JP Finlay:

WFT’s first-round draft pick Jamin Davis lined up at middle linebacker in the team’s base 4-3 defense, which was a surprise. Davis was flanked by Cole Holcomb and Jon Bostic, but many expected the veteran Bostic to man the middle and Davis to work the outside. Again, it’s only May, and a lot can change, but that was a surprise. Keep in mind the Washington defense usually lines up in its base 4-3 defense on fewer than half of the team’s snaps, and Davis will play when defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio calls for nickel or dime packages too.”

It seems that Washington is already sharpening that versatility that made Davis such an impact player at Kentucky. You can tell he has the physical tools simply by looking at him, but what might inspire even more confidence in the rookie is his mindset.

It’s May and thus very early in the whole NFL offseason, but these reports are very encouraging signs that Davis is putting himself in a great position to make an impact on what should be a very fun defensive unit this fall.
