Jared Goff is a Liam Coen fan
The Los Angeles Rams were not good at he game of football when they selected Jared Goff with he first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The gunslinger was 0-7 as a starter before Sean McVay came to town. After implementing his offensive scheme, the Rams would win 24 of their next 32 games, culminating in a Super Bowl appearance.
Liam Coen, Kentucky’s next offensive coordinator, was on the sideline for half of that run. Goff shared with The Athletic what Coen has meant to the two-time Pro Bowler’s career.

“Liam has been really good for me and my development,” Rams quarterback Jared Goff, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, told The Athletic. “I think the No. 1 thing about him that I like is he played the quarterback position and he really understands it and how to coach it. He’s smart, does a lot of our breakdowns through the week and has great ideas that we use all the time in games. We’ll miss having him for sure, but Kentucky got a great one.”
That should be enough to get you excited about what Coen could do for the Wildcats’ offense. In this wonderful piece by Kyle Tucker and Bruce Feldman, it’s merely an anecdote.
In the piece we learn how Coen convinced Mark Stoops within 15 minutes that he was the right man for the job. The former UMass quarterback’s attention to detail in binders of information and hours of film cut-ups is impressive. Coen is prepared to take the reins of Kentucky’s offense.
