Not a day goes by that we don’t miss Jared Lorenzen. That’s why it got a little dusty around the KSR headquarters this afternoon when we found out that Lorenzen’s son Tayden received his first Division I scholarship offer to play football at Miami of Ohio last week.

Tayden is wrapping up his sophomore year at Highlands, his dad’s old stomping grounds. He plays tight end and a little quarterback for the Bluebirds, who were 11-3 last season and made it to the KHSAA Class 5A state semifinals, where they lost to Cooper. As a tight end, Tayden caught 31 passes for 363 yards and eight touchdowns. As a quarterback, he was 5-10 for 83 yards and two more touchdowns. He did it all while wearing his dad’s No. 22 jersey. Tayden also played on the basketball team, averaging 11.6 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game.

Miami (OH) is Lorenzen’s first Division I offer, but it won’t be his last. The 2027 prospect is just getting started in the recruiting process and will attend Kentucky’s one-day camp on June 18. He attended a Kentucky camp last year and is looking forward to showing Vince Marrow how much he’s improved since last year. The KSR crew will be in attendance to bring you all the sights and sounds from the camp, including Tayden’s performance.

It’s hard to believe that this summer marks six years since Jared Lorenzen’s death. The Round Mound of Touchdown is still Kentucky’s all-time leader in passing yards (10,354) and second in touchdowns (78) behind Andre Woodson (79). The January after Jared’s passing, the program featured Tayden in its Super Bowl commercial, an incredibly sweet tribute.

I know Jared’s up there smiling right now and looking forward to Tayden’s camp at Kentucky next month. Check out Tayden’s highlights below.
