Kentucky is on a recruiting roll and it’s at Florida State‘s expense. The Wildcats kicked off fall camp by adding another member to the 2023 recruiting class. Saturday evening Jaremiah Anglin announced his commitment to Kentucky.

Jaremiah Anglin is a 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back from Lake Wales, Florida. For most of his recruitment, Florida State was the perceived leader. The draw to play for the in-state school was not enough for Mike Norvell to beat Mark Stoops on the recruiting trail.

Anglin is a three-star prospect in the On3 Consensus, but our friends at On3 are much more bullish on his future. He is ranked No. 230 overall in the On300 as a Top 25 safety in the country. He’s also tabbed as on the best 50 players from the state of Florida in the 2023 recruiting class.

Another Significant Recruiting Win over Florida State

Florida State’s top defensive back targets are choosing to commit to Kentucky instead. For Kentucky fans that grew up watching Deion Sanders make highlights for Bobby Bowden, that’s a difficult development to conceive. And yet, it’s now becoming commonplace.

Up until days before Avery Stuart‘s decision, the Seminoles were long considered the leaders in his recruitment. Kentucky made a late push and got a commitment from the Alabama four-star safety. Fast forward a month later and the Seminoles appeared to be in good shape for Jaremiah Anglin, until Kentucky closed with a win in FSU’s backyard.

Score another win for Chris Collins. The second-year cornerbacks coach brought a ton of talent to Lexington in June. In back-to-back weeks he’s secured surprising wins, starting with linebacker Grant Godfrey. The Wildcats now have 15 commitments in 2023, a quarter of which are blue chip recruits.

Jaremiah Anglin is an Athlete with Upside

The discrepency in rankings between recruiting sites can be explained by Anglin’s athleticism. On3’s experts put more stock into raw traits than some other sites. Jaremiah Anglin is only 6-feet tall, but he has the length Kentucky desires in defensive backs with a 6-foot-3 wingspan. He’s recorded a 32-inch vertical and a 4.6 40-yard dash.

On the field Anglin does a little bit of everything. A two-way star for Lake Wales, as a junior he caught 24 passes for 358 yards and 3 touchdowns on offense. Lining up at cornerback and safety he tallied 83 tackles and 5 interceptions. He is also a special teams standout, returning a punt for score. There’s a lot to like about the latest addition to Kentucky’s 2023 recruiting class.
