Jasper Johnson schedules commitment date for Sept. 5
Jasper Johnson is ready to make a decision, nailing down a commitment date following the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The 5-star guard out of Lexington will announce his college choice on Thursday, September 5 at Woodford County High School. He’ll decide between his five finalists: Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, and North Carolina.
Johnson, rated as the No. 11 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, will spend his senior year at Overtime Elite after previous stops at Link Academy and Woodford County. As for his next stop after high school, Alabama, Kentucky and North Carolina have been widely considered the legitimate contenders to land the 6-4 guard coming down the home stretch of his recruitment.
It’s the Wildcats, though, holding an 84.9 percent edge in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine ten days out from his anticipated announcement.
Johnson broke down the top contenders in his recruitment with KSR back in July:
Alabama: “Coach (Nate) Oats, they produce every year at the guard position. They give their guards a lot of freedom, take a lot of threes. And they play defense, as well. Coach Oats has been recruiting me since my eighth-grade summer, going into my freshman year. They were the first Power Five school to offer me, so we’ve been building a relationship for a long time now.”

Kentucky: “(Coach (Mark) Pope) is always pitching to me he wants to hang a banner, so coming in and making a big impact from day one. He’s telling me he wants me to come in and have a big role on their team. Hearing that is good.”
North Carolina: “Growing up watching basketball, there are lot of great players with great basketball everywhere. Just watching them growing up as a kid, I was always very interested in their program. To see that they’re recruiting me now, it’s a great opportunity and a blessing. (They’re saying) that they really want me to be the first commit and take that guard position.”
Pope and the Kentucky staff locked up the first commitment of their 2025 class when Malachi Moreno, the nation’s No. 1 center, became a Wildcat back on August 16. Will Johnson join him to give the program two top-25 pledges ahead of the early signing period in November? We won’t have to wait long to find out.
