Jaxson Robinson named most likely breakout player of 2024-25
College basketball analyst Andy Katz is a big believer in Jaxson Robinson going into the 2024-25 season. The NCAA.com correspondent recently tabbed Robinson as the 10th-best wing player in the country (which he took some exception to online). This week, Katz heaped even more praise upon the former BYU Cougar.
On Tuesday, Katz named Robinson as his top breakout player in all of college basketball for the upcoming season.
“After a productive season at BYU, Jaxson Robinson brings his scoring touch to Kentucky,” NCAA.com wrote. “The 6-foot-6 sharpshooter, named Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year, averaged 14.2 points per game and drilled 81 3-pointers last season. With his ability to stretch the floor and provide instant offense, Robinson looks primed to be one of Kentucky’s top scoring threats in 2024-25.”
Robinson, a graduate student who is about to play his fifth college season, figures to be a member of Mark Pope‘s starting five from the opener. He’s the only player on this roster with experience playing under Pope. The two were at BYU together for the last two seasons.
Since making the leap to college, Robinson has improved in every season. He began his career at Texas A&M (2020-21) where he averaged 2.1 points in 14 games played before transferring to Arkansas (2021-22) where he averaged 3.4 points in 16 games. But once he moved over to BYU under Pope, the Oklahoma native saw his production skyrocket.

Robinson was named a full-time starter in 2022-23 when he averaged 8.5 points in 28.1 minutes across 33 games played. At one point in that season, he made a three-pointer in 15 consecutive games. He then turned into a potential NBA Draft pick in 2023-24, winning Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year while also being named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.
Although his minutes were reduced slightly from his first season at BYU to his second, his scoring numbers soared. Robinson averaged 14.2 points in 26.4 minutes across 33 games played last season. He shot career-highs from both the field (42.6 percent) and long-range (35.4 percent). Robinson had 25 games scoring in double-digits.
