Jaxson Robinson named to SEC Coaches Preseason Third Team
The SEC media and coaches agree on Jaxson Robinson‘s abilities as a hooper — the fifth-year senior can play. Tabbed to the All-SEC Third Team by the nerds, the guys forced to draw up game plans to slow him down have done the same, the BYU transfer voted to the preseason third team by league coaches on Thursday.
Beyond his status as a consensus Preseason All-SEC Third Team member, Robinson has also been named to the watch lists for both the Naismith Trophy Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year and the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.
Like the media list, Robinson was the only Wildcat included in the preseason honors while Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas and Texas had multiple selections.
Alabama’s Mark Sears has been named Preseason Player of the Year while also earning First Team honors. Auburn’s Johni Broome, Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr., Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler and Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor IV round out the First Team.

Robinson comes to Kentucky as the 2023-24 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year after leading Mark Pope’s Cougars in scoring at 14.2 points per game. He was the first bench player in BYU program history to pace the team in scoring and did so while shooting 42.6% from the field and 35.4% from beyond the 3-point arc — all career-bests.
Robinson reached double-digit scoring in 25 of 33 games played last season, connecting on 81 3-pointers and burying at least one triple in each of the team’s final 21 games. He had a standout performance in BYU’s NCAA Tournament games against Duquesne, tallying 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting to lead all scorers.
The standout guard has averaged a team-high 21.5 points per game through two exhibition contests — including a 24-point effort against Minnesota State.
Plenty more accolades on the way this season for Jaxson Robinson.
