Jodie Meeks and Isaiah Briscoe named to BIG3 All-Star Game
The NBA isn’t the only path of professional basketball where former Kentucky Wildcats are thriving.
Earlier this week, it was announced by the BIG3 that a pair of one-time ‘Cats, Jodie Meeks and Isaiah Briscoe, were tabbed as All-Stars for the league’s inaugural All-Star Game, which is scheduled for this Sunday, August 21 at 3:30 p.m. EST on CBS. Meeks played at UK from 2006-09 while Briscoe was with the ‘Cats from 2015-16.
Meeks will join Team DOC, which is coached by NBA legend Julius Irving. The roster consists of well-known hoopers such as Michael Beasley, DeShawn Stevenson, Gerald Green, and Mario Chalmers, among others. As for Briscoe, he won’t actually participate in the All-Star Game as his Trilogy team is set to play in the BIG3 championship, which immediately follows the All-Star event.
If you aren’t familiar with the BIG3, it’s a 3-in-3 basketball league that was founded in 2017 by rapper/actor Ice Cube. The organization consists of 12 teams with the majority of players being former NBA players past their respective primes. Games are played in a halfcourt setting and utilize a “four-point shot” that is located 30 feet from the basket.

For Meeks, this should be a pretty cool weekend for him. With the All-Star Game taking place in Atlanta, it won’t be far at all from where he played his high school hoops at Norcross. Meeks was named the Atlanta Journal-Consitution’s Player of the Year in 2006 after leading Norcross to a state championship. He was originally born in Nashville but spent most of his childhood in Georgia and will surely have friends and family show out at the event.
He was an easy choice for a spot on the All-Star roster, too — Meeks averaged 16.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Ball Hogs this season while shooting over 36 percent from distance (and 2-3 on 4-point shots).
Briscoe was equally deserving of his spot. He was the Week 5 Player of the Week and is averaging 19.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per outing for Trilogy while shooting 44.6 percent overall from the field.
His squad will play in the BIG3 title game on Sunday afternoon against Power, which includes the likes of Glen Rice Jr., Royce White, and 46-year-old Cuttino Mobley. Briscoe and Trilogy have a chance to become the BIG3’s first-ever back-to-back champion. Briscoe was a key member of last year’s 2021 title winners.
