Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals avoid injury disaster in training camp
Thursday afternoon was a scary time to be a Cincinnati Bengals fan. The Super Bowl contender nearly lost the most one of the most important assets in the National Football League.
Star quarterback Joe Burrow hit the turf in Cincinnati with a non-contact injury to his right leg, and many thought the awkward landing looked like an Achilles injury.
However, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters that the injury was calf related but could not confirm the injury specifics immediately. Luckily, the sources of NFL insiders were hard at work. Cincinnati will not be without No. 9 at Paycor Stadium this fall.

For the fourth consecutive year, Burrow will have a broken-up training camp experience. COVID-19, ACL injury recovery, an appendectomy, and now a strained calf will keep one of the best quarterbacks in football on the sidelines during training camp. That hasn’t made much of a difference during the season over the last two years since the Bengals have a pair of AFC North titles and consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances.
But it’s not the best development. Regardless, the Bengals avoided catastrophe and that was most important once this non-contact injury developed. Don’t worry, Cincinnati will still be a Super Bowl contender, but Burrow could have some rust to knock off in the first month of the season as he takes some time off in training camp once again.
