John Calipari announces Shaedon Sharpe will NOT play this season

The Shaedon Sharpe fiasco is finally coming to a lackluster ending.
On Monday morning, Kentucky head coach John Calipari announced on social media that Sharpe will NOT suit and play for the Wildcats this season. Sharpe, a five-star shooting guard widely considered a future top-five NBA Draft pick, reclassified to the class of 2021 and joined UK prior to the spring semester. Despite rampant speculation that he might find his way onto the court, that dream has officially been shot down.
In his announcement, Calipari does add that Sharpe is “committed to bettering himself and our team in practice this year and being better prepared to lead us next season.” So perhaps the speculation is entirely over with…

Sharpe was previously the No. 1 player from the class of 2022 before reclassifying. Even still, the On3 Consensus considers him as the No. 2 prospect in the class of 2021 behind only Chet Holmgren of Gonzaga.
It was reported back in January that Sharpe is technically eligible for the upcoming 2022 NBA Draft. He can apply as an early-entrant candidate. Sharpe turns 19 on May 30 and will have been one NBA season removed from his high school graduation.
