John Calipari did not attend last night's NBA Draft
John Calipari is usually front and center at the NBA Draft, but last night, was nowhere to be seen at the Barclays Center as Shaedon Sharpe and TyTy Washington waited to hear their names called. Despite reports to the contrary from his daughter, Erin, Calipari did not attend the event, a UK spokesperson confirms to KSR. The spokesperson said Calipari did speak to both players prior to the event to wish them well.
Where was Calipari? On Instagram, his son, Brad, shared pictures from a New York Yankees game that was taking place at the same time. Brad is now on Derek Kellogg’s staff at LIU Brooklyn.
Sharpe was drafted No. 7 by the Portland Trail Blazers while Washington went No. 29 to the Houston Rockets. One of the last players in the green room, Washington was embraced by his family, friends, and former Kentucky assistant Jai Lucas when his name was called. Lucas now serves on Duke’s staff.
