John Calipari high on Kentucky's chemistry after fourth-straight blowout
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: John Calipari likes his team. After Kentucky’s 92-48 victory over High Point — the Cats’ fourth straight dominant performance — Calipari couldn’t help but gush about his guys.
“We were a little bit much [for High Point],” Calipari said. “We played really good today.”
Anyone with two eyes can see how well Kentucky’s playing. Since the loss at Notre Dame, the Cats have been on fire, scoring 80+ points in all four wins and 90+ in three. Kellan Grady’s red-hot shooting has obviously given the Cats another dimension, but Keion Brooks’ improvement and Lance Ware’s hustle are also significant. Add in Sahvir Wheeler, Oscar Tshiebwe, and TyTy Washington doing their thing and the reserves providing steady play and you’ve got a team to really be excited about. All that said, what excites John Calipari the most right now is how the Cats are keeping their composure off the court.
“I’m enjoying this team because they want to be coached,” Calipari said. “These kids are getting better and better at pushing out the clutter, leaving that rat poison alone, and focusing on each other. I keep telling them, look, there are not many teams that I’ve coached that get along like this team. You’d better enjoy it because when it’s over, it’s over. You may never play on another team that gets along like this team.”
As someone who has played plenty of college basketball over his career, Kellan Grady knows team chemistry when he sees it. He told us this group has something special, even though this is the first season most have played together.

“It’s hard to pinpoint. We’re just a cohesive group both as you can see, on and off the court. We understand each other and it’s just what you expect for a team where you have a bunch of guys that are close. Everyone appreciates each other, everyone has their own unique traits both on the court and off the court. It’s been a joy to be a part of.”
A joy that will continue into April, we hope. Speaking of, have you seen TyTy Washington’s victory dance?
