John Calipari is still looking to add another piece or two to Kentucky’s 2024 recruiting class, but that doesn’t mean he’s not keeping his eyes open on the future.

The Wildcats head coach traveled to Geneva College in his home state of Pennsylvania over the weekend to check in on one of his top targets for the class of 2025: five-star Meleek Thomas. Thomas made sure to put on a show, too. On Saturday, the 6-foot-3, 175-pound shooting guard exploded for a triple-double stat line of 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists with Calipari watching from the bleachers.

This was the third time since September that Calipari has watched Thomas play in person.

Thomas and his team, Lincoln Park Performing Arts, picked up an easy win along the way as well, beating Belle Vernon (PA) 82-47. Thomas is considered the No. 6 overall high school junior in the country by the On3 Industry Ranking.

Thomas could repay Calipari the favor soon. On3’s Joe Tipton reported in December that Thomas intends to visit Kentucky, Alabama, Michigan, and Auburn “within the next few months”, although no dates have been finalized at this time. So far, he’s only taken unofficial visits to Penn State, Pittsburgh, Villanova, and Indiana.

Back in September, Thomas cut his list of options down to 12. Kentucky, which offered him in April, made the cut, as did Kansas State, Indiana, Kansas, Duke, Auburn, Tennessee, UConn, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Miami (FL), and Villanova. Although Alabama did not make his initial list, the Crimson Tide have jumped into the mix and expect to receive a visit soon.
