John Calipari will remain as head coach at Kentucky for 2024-25 season

And there you have it. After days of rumors and speculation, John Calipari will suit up as the Kentucky men’s basketball head coach for the 2024-25 season.
KSR’s Jack Pilgrim and Matt Jones were first to break the news.
Calipari and University of Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart met behind closed doors for a meeting on Tuesday afternoon. What exactly was said during that meeting has not been made public, but it ultimately ended with Calipari retaining his position as head coach of the Wildcats.
Pilgrim has more details of what to expect between now and the start of next season over at KSBoard.

Ever since Kentucky’s first-round NCAA Tournament loss to 14-seed Oakland last week, Calipari’s status as head coach has been up in the air. Speculation swirled in the days after, but once Calipari appeared on his weekly radio show Monday night, a return felt more than likely (not to mention his $33 million buyout).
Kentucky has not advanced past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2019 and has not made a Final Four since 2015. But Calipari and company will have at least one more shot at rectifying that in the fall.
