Kentucky junior guard Sahvir Wheeler is dealing with a neck injury and his status against Georgia remains up in the air.

During his weekly call-in radio show, UK head coach John Calipari announced his team’s starting point guard was “day-to-day” with the injury. As things stand now, he’s preparing for the possibility of Wheeler missing Saturday’s game in case he’s not able to suit up.

“Sahvir has a neck injury. He’ll be day-to-day,” Calipari said. “So I gotta prepare as though he’s not going to play in that Georgia game, in case he doesn’t.”

Wheeler was knocked out of Kentucky’s game in Baton Rouge with 16:07 to go in the first half, taken to the locker room after running into LSU center Efton Reid on a hard screen. He did not return for the final 36 minutes of the game, finishing with zero points, one assist, one rebound and one turnover in four minutes for the Wildcats.

Following Wheeler’s injury, freshman guard TyTy Washington also went down with cramps midway through the second half. He exited the game with 9:17 to go and returned at the 6:00 mark, but was in visible pain. He then subbed out for good with 3:55 to go.

Will he play against Georgia? That’s the plan — or hope, at the very least.

“I hope so,” Calipari said. “I didn’t expect it to happen in the game.”

Washington finished with five points on 2-9 shooting to go with six rebounds, four assists, one block, one steal and two turnovers in the loss at LSU.
