John Calipari speaks with Stanford transfer Harrison Ingram
Some movement in the transfer portal for the Kentucky Wildcats? John Calipari has made contact with a former McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit.
On3’s Joe Tipton reports that Calipari spoke with Stanford transfer Harrison Ingram on Monday, as did Kansas head coach Bill Self.
Ingram, a 6-foot-7 forward out of Dallas, TX, was rated No. 23 overall and No. 6 among small forwards in the 2021 On3 Industry Ranking. He originally chose Stanford over offers from Memphis, Michigan, Tennessee, UCLA, Florida State, Baylor, Kansas, Texas, North Carolina, Illinois, Purdue, Louisville, Marquette, Arkansas, Georgetown, Texas A&M, Florida, Oklahoma, Houston Harvard, Ole Miss, SMU, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech and Howard.
North Carolina, Michigan, Harvard and Howard were the 230-pound prospect’s other finalists before signing with Stanford.
Ingram was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and earned Pac-12 All-Freshman team honors after averaging 10.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest in 2021-22. He followed it up by averaging 10.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 40.8% from the field and 31.9% from three.

“Stanford is a wonderful place and my experience here has been amazing,” Ingram announced April 4. “The relationships that I have developed will be lifelong, and I will always remember my time here. Thanks to Coach Haase and staff for providing me the opportunity to become a Cardinal. The many life lessons learned on and off the court will serve me well in all aspects of life.
“I have devoted many hours to being the best academic student and best basketball player possible, and I will continue on this path. Although there is more work required to reach my goals, through much thought and discussion with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. Thank you to everyone who has supported me during this process.”
On3’s Jamie Shaw reported Monday morning that North Carolina is making the strongest push to land the former five-star prospect, with Michigan and Kansas also being schools to keep an eye on. This was, however, before Calipari and the Wildcats decided to throw their hat in the ring.
Could Kentucky pull off the comeback win in Ingram’s recruitment?
On3 H.S. Scouting Summary
“Strong body and most comfortable on the ball. He sees the floor at a high level. Good passer. Plays well out of the pick and roll. A below-the-rim athlete can struggle to finish in the paint against length. Jump shot is streaky, better off the bounce than the catch. Needs a screen to touch the paint. Makes appropriate reads once in the paint. Plays balanced and off two feet. Can post up a smaller defender. Where does he defend? Never gets rushed with the ball. High IQ player.”
