John Schlarman's legacy honored with banner outside Kroger Field
Earlier this month Mark Stoops assured Big Blue Nation of Kentucky Football’s plans to honor John Schlarman.
“We want to honor him the best way we can for a long time,” Stoops told Kentucky Sports Radio. “I don’t think I can reveal exactly what that will be today. Our administration is still working on that.”
On Tuesday, the first phase of honoring Schlarman went up on the side of Kroger Field in the Gate 12 Plaza: a tall banner celebrating the former player-turned-offensive line coach and his quote, “You come together, nobody can stop you.”
Also in memory of Schlarman, the offensive linemen along the Big Blue Wall intend to rotate his No. 65 jersey for each game again this season.

“I know within the team, us, we’re going to continue to honor him at this point until somebody tells me we can’t,” Stoops said.
The program also has plans for a permanent tribute to Schlarman inside Kroger Field. We’ll hear more on that at a later date.
For now, the gigantic banner welcoming fans will serve as the salute to the Wildcat legend.
