John Wall inks 2-year, $13.2 million deal with Los Angeles Clippers

NBA free agency has been booming over the last 24 hours, and many former Kentucky Wildcats are finding new homes. Former SEC Player of the Year John Wall has now finalized terms with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The veteran point guard will be 32 years old at the start of the 2022-23 NBA season but has been able to lock up a two-year deal with the Western Conference franchise that was confirmed by his agency on Friday.
John Wall became an unrestricted free agent on Monday when the player agreed to a contract buyout with the Houston Rockets. That buyout took away $6.5 million off his $47.4 million salary with the Rockets. A very good payday for one of Kentucky’s most famous one-and-done players.
After one year with Kentucky that led to an SEC title and Elite Eight appearance in John Calipari’s first season in Lexington, Wall declared for the 2010 NBA Draft. The explosive point guard would be the No. 1 overall pick for the Washington Wizards. Wall would spend a decade with the Eastern Conference franchise earning an All-NBA selection in 2017 before being traded to the Rockets during the 2020-21 season in a blockbuster trade for Russell Westbrook.

Wall put up solid numbers in his only season playing for Houston but did not play for the tanking franchise this past season. Now he’ll be heading to a contending franchise that is in win-now mode.
With Kawhi Leonard returning from injury, the Clippers will be making a run at the program’s first-ever NBA title in 2022-23. John Wall will now be a key piece to that puzzle as the former Kentucky star look to return to the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2018.
