John Welch named associate head coach at Fresno State
John Welch will not be following John Calipari to Arkansas. Instead, the 61-year-old coach will be taking his coaching talents back to the West Coast as the new Associate Head Coach at Fresno State.
He will be joining new head coach Vance Walberg, the originator of the dribble drive offense that Coach Cal made famous, out in Fresno.

Welch arrived in Lexington last offseason as a full-time assistant coach under Calipari, leading the charge on player development while also helping with offensive strategy, scouting and game-planning. On-court training was his specialty, regularly seen with players before games and in practice helping perfect their respective crafts.
He was formerly an assistant at Fresno State from 1995-02 under legendary coach Jerry Tarkanian. Now, he’s back in California working with Walberg.
