The fine and hardworking people over at The Herald-Leader looked into Joker Phillips' current deal with Ohio State and my man's not making quite the coin he made while at the University of Kentucky. According to the story, Phillips, who serves as a quality control assistant for the Buckeye offense, is paid $35,000 per year to do his quality controlling. That's a slight pay cut from the five-year, $1.7 million-per-year deal he signed to become the head coach in Lexington in 2010, and the $2.5 million buyout when he left ahead of schedule in 2012. Phillips' current role with Ohio State is not a sideline coaching gig as only nine full-time assistant coaches and four graduate assistants can do any actually coaching in games and practices. It's more of game planning and scouting position, but will likely come with a Big Ten (and possibly BCS) championship ring.
