Jon Sumrall officially announced as Troy head football coach
Jon Sumrall will be Troy’s next head football coach.
Late Wednesday night the school officially announced the hiring of Sumrall, a former Kentucky linebacker and co-defensive coordinator. He’ll be introduced to Troy football fans at a press conference Monday morning.
Sumrall previously served as an assistant at Troy with another former Wildcat, Neal Brown. A Huntsville native, Sumrall spent the last three seasons on Mark Stoops’ Kentucky coaching staff.

He fully understands our championship expectations and has a comprehensive plan to take Troy Football to the top of the Sun Belt Conference and the Group of Five. We are thrilled to welcome Jon, Ginny, Sam, Sadie, Stella and Selah back to Troy, and I know our community is excited to welcome them with open arms. I have no doubt Jon Sumrall is the right man to lead us into a new era of Troy Football.”
Sumrall was emotional when he got the news.
Sumrall is not leaving Lexington on bad terms. He’s received congrats from all corners of the BBN on his way to the Sun Belt.
