In the last three recruiting cycles, we’ve seen quite the rise for Kentucky football in wide receiver recruiting. Since transitioning to a pro-style offense, the Wildcats have inked seven top-500 recruits to play the position.

That strong run could continue in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School rising junior Jordan Shipp released his top eight schools on Tuesday. Kentucky was included in the group.

Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, and Virginia Tech are all battling it out for the 6-foot-2 receiver that is currently the No. 400 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Consensus rankings.

Kentucky issued a verbal scholarship offer to Shipp on Nov. 30 with former running backs coach John Settle running lead in this recruitment. However, Settle was replaced by Jay Boulware during the offseason. It does not appear that the top-10 prospect in North Carolina has made a trip to Lexington for a visit yet.

Michigan, North Carolina, and NC State have emerged as the early top contenders in this recruitment. Shipp has visited each campus at least three separate times. Former Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips is the lead recruiter for NC State in this battle. Phillips joined NC State’s staff in 2021 serving as the assistant head coach and wide receivers coach for head coach Dave Doeren.

Kentucky has some work to do here, but the Wildcats are at least in the ballpark. Expect some more wide receiver targets to emerge as college football programs are working hard to build relationships and record commitments with 2024 prospects.

Recruiting never stops.
