Karl-Anthony Towns avoids season-ending injury, out 4-6 weeks

Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns went down with a scary lower leg injury in the third quarter of the team’s game at Washington on Monday. Fortunately for the former Wildcat, it will not end his season.
The Timberwolves announced Tuesday that Towns is dealing with a right calf strain and will be sidelined indefinitely before being reassessed in several weeks. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi reports that the anticipated timeline to return will be four-to-six weeks and a full recovery is expected.
With no structural damage, the hope is that Towns returns to game action in January.
The former Kentucky standout took to social media to stress that he won’t be off the floor long.
“Just another chapter,” he wrote. “Jackie’s Son will be back soon.”
It was a non-contact injury for Towns pulling up while jogging down the floor. He had to be helped off the floor by his teammates and training staff.

In 21 games this season for Minnesota — all starts — Towns is averaging 20.8 points on 50.5% shooting overall to go with 8.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. The star center is averaging 23.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest over the course of his eight-year career. He has earned NBA All-Star honors three times, one being last season when he averaged 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.0 steals in 33.5 minutes per contest.
Towns has missed 64 games over the course of his career. In that span, the Timberwolves have an abysmal 17-47 record overall.
Best of luck to KAT as he works his way back to game action.
