Karter Knox decision expected within next two weeks, per report

Karter Knox, one of the top remaining uncommitted class of 2024 prospects, is close to wrapping up his recruitment.

According to a report by Bob Putnam of Prime Time Preps from Wednesday, who spoke with Knox’s father Kevin Sr., Karter Knox is set to announce his college decision within the next 14 days. The 6-foot-6 small forward is down to a group of finalists that includes Kentucky, Louisville, South Florida, and the NBA’s G League Ignite. He’s taken visits to all four options.

Knox, who suits up for Overtime Elite, is considered the No. 19 overall high school senior in the country by the On3 Industry Ranking. Kentucky currently has five 2024 commits locked in, good enough for the second-best class in the country.

Knox has significant ties to all three of his college finalists. Kentucky is the most obvious, as his older brother, Kevin Knox, was a one-and-done with the Wildcats during the 2017-18 season before being selected as an NBA lottery pick. Kevin was named First-Team All-SEC and won SEC Freshman of the Year under head coach John Calipari. Karter took his most recent official visit to UK in January.

With Louisville, current head coach Kenny Payne was an assistant under Calipari at Kentucky when Kevin was in Lexington. That family relationship has remained strong with Payne now coaching the Cardinals. The kicker is the possibility that Payne is ultimately fired at the end of the season. Louisville is 8-20 this season and holds an overall record of 12-48 in two years under Payne. Karter took his most recent official visit to UL in December.

Then there’s the sleeper: South Florida. This school also holds a family connection. A third Knox brother, Kobe, is a current sophomore with the No. 25-ranked Bulls. Kobe is averaging 8.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 26.9 minutes per contest this season. USF is led by first-year head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim, who has the Bulls sitting on a 21-5 record with a 14-1 conference mark and a shot at making the program’s fourth-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Karter took his most recent official visit to USF in November.

A decision should be coming soon enough.
