Kate Upton's Friday News and Views
See? Real girls eat cheeseburgers (or, at least hold them in front of their face for pictures).
Dan Fouts. Tara Lipinski. Elizabeth Hurley. All of these people were born on June 10th. But, I know you. I know what you want. I know what you need. So, I dedicate my inaugural News & Views to a woman you rank above any other…Jeanne Tripplehorn. Just kidding (she is awesome, though). Of course, I mean Kate Upton, who was born on this day way back in…1992 (feel old yet?). After driving you guys crazy with her viral Dougie dance, Kate turned her sights on Louisville, where she co-hosted the Ferdinand Ball with our beloved Boogie. She even posed for a few candids with our very own Matt Jones and Drew Franklin, forever cementing her place in their Facebook Profile Picture history. But did you know that Kate is an accomplished equestrian? As a teenager, Kate competed in national American Paint Horse Association shows. Her trophy rack is stacked (see what I did there?) with five APHA Reserve World Championships and various other rankings and ribbons.
Sports Illustrated, Victoria’s Secret, Kanye West’s arms, downtown Louisville: Kate’s everywhere these days. On Tuesday, she even made an appearance on Tosh.0 in a skit entitled “Knife or Banana.” After watching, I’ll give her a B+ for effort. I’ll bump that to an A if I find out she actually ate that cheeseburger in the picture above. So, there you go. Kate Upton, your Friday News and Views honoree. Don’t say I never gave you anything.
On, On to the news and views…
– If the pictures of Ryan Harrow in the Lexington airport weren’t proof enough for you that he’s a Wildcat, then have no fear: today, UK officially announced his enrollment. Of course, he’ll have to sit out next season, but oh, the things he will learn. Right, Coach Cal?
“Ryan has tremendous ball-handling skills and offensive awareness and is a great addition to our team. He’s a great student of the game as well as in the classroom. He’ll have a year to grow in our system and should be ready to be a major contributor in 2012-13.”
Coach Cal was equally excited about Orange Leaf’s new low-fat no-sugar vanilla ice cream, which he pimped out all over Twitter. Wake me up when he disses Pat Forde again.
– Some updates on Cats headed to the draft:
Knight – After turning heads during his workout for the Raptors on Tuesday, Brandon Knight looks to be headed to Utah next week to work out for the Jazz, where we may finally see a Kemba Walker-Brandon Knight head-to-head matchup. Knight and Walker’s agents have been avoiding a joint workout thus far, but don’t expect that to last much longer.
Kanter – Despite a promising workout with the Cavaliers, the mystery surrounding Enes continues to frustrate teams. Calipari, being the intuitive man he is, praised Enes today, saying that if he had the number one pick, he would pick Kanter over Irving and Williams because his youth, size, intelligence and shooting touch are unmatched in the draft. There are reports that Enes, the key to this year’s draft, may be doing some damage control by working out for the Jazz next week.
Liggins – On Tuesday, Liggins made a good impression on New Jersey Nets’ GM Billy King, who praised his defensive intensity and versatility. Today, Liggins worked out for the Suns with a group of five other players, and has drawn comparisons to former Grizzlies guard Tony Allen. He continues to get good PR, with a nice piece in Dime magazine and the heartwarming NBA Prospect Profile video Drew shared earlier.
Jorts – Today was Jorts Day in Sacramento. Well, not really, but it should have been. Earlier, I linked Jorts’ interview with the media after his workout today with the Kings. Jorts says the workout was “great,” but reviews should trickle in throughout the day Friday. He also said teams have told him he could go anywhere from 25-45, or late first to early second round. Very promising news for OshKosh B’Josh.
– Speaking of the NBA, today, former Cat John Wall stopped by the Jim Rome show to share some insight on his rookie season. Wall said the toughest part of his first season was adjusting to how teams focused on him defensively and obviously, his foot and knee injuries, which kept him on the sideline for 12 games. When asked what he wanted to improve on for next season, Wall mentioned his jump shot and turnover margin, citing Derek Rose as a role model for the way he has developed his game year-by-year (#lafamilia). As always, John handled himself exceptionally well, even sporting the newly-designed Wizards gear (which, probably because he was wearing it, is growing on me).
– Yes, the freshmen are on campus. In fact, they’ve started attending class. According to their tweets, they’re still in the honeymoon phase. #BBN #gbb #wearefamily Kyle Wiltjer is also really worried about when the iPhone 5 is coming out.
– With all the excitement surrounding the incoming freshmen class, some of the returning players may have slipped under the radar. Yahoo’s Jason King thinks so, too; he lists Doron Lamb as one of the most underrated players in the country. That’s right: even our players that people sometimes forget about are freakin’ awesome. Doron, this three monocle’s for you.

– In an interview with Andy Katz on ESPN.com, Jared Sullinger admits he has has some “unfinished business” to tend to next season. In fact, he goes on and on about how much he regrets those two missed free throws against Kentucky that could have tied the game. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. I’m sure that pebbly “Spalding” tattoo on his chest, courtesy of Josh, doesn’t help.
– Today, Mitch Barnhart said he is “not interested” in the Tennessee AD job, adding he’s got a lot of things to still accomplish at Kentucky and his next path once his contract is up “will probably be outside athletics.” I KNEW he wanted to open up a sweater vest shop. Hey Mitch, I hear Jim Tressel’s selling some.
– If you haven’t heard, BTI lost his game of horse to future UofL freshman Sara Hammond. I’m sure we’ll hear more about it tomorrow at 9 a.m. It’s okay, BTI, we’ll get ’em back in December. #AnthonyDavisSaysShutUp
– Finally, a bit of news sure to make your Friday: Jon Hood is back on Twitter. Does this mean more FakeJonHoodTwitterFeed calls to the radio show (cough, Beis)?
That’s all, folks. Matt and the gang will kick things off tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. on Talk 1080. Who knows, maybe they’ll even get a drunk dial from Ryan Lemmond. The rest of us will be here, steady rockin’ all day long.
