Kentucky has not recruited the Metro Indianapolis area often in the Mark Stoops era. That seems to be changing as the Wildcats are making a big push for Kendrick Gilbert.

The Indianapolis Cathedral prospect is the No. 334 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Kendrick Gilbert has seen a busy recruitment that has included visits to Illinois, Kentucky LSU, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt since February. Brian Kelly had Gilbert on the recruiting board at Notre Dame, and his staff has continued to recruit the top-500 prospect at LSU. The 6-foot-5 defensive line prospect has an official visit scheduled with LSU in June.

The prospect spoke with 247 Sports this week and confirmed that LSU is one of his favorites along with Iowa and Kentucky. Gilbert called his trip to Lexington one of his better visits and speaks highly of the Kentucky football program.

“Coach Stoops he’s doing something big,” Gilbert told 247 Sports. “I think they’re developing guys and putting them in the league and it’s an all-around good program on the come up.”

Kentucky still needs to get an official visit scheduled with the prospect as this recruitment develops, but things are moving in the right direction. Gilbert has the length the Wildcats prefer to have along the line of scrimmage and has the potential to possibly multiple spots along the 3-4 hybrid front utilized in Lexington.

Kendrick Gilbert is a prospect to watch in the class of 2023 as the coaching staff is attempting to gain some recruiting traction in the midwest.
