Kendrick Law missed both Kentucky open practices but should return soon

Kentucky has mostly avoided the injury bug all offseason but a notable player was not out on the practice field after stretches in each of the open practices this week. Alabama wide receiver transfer Kendrick Law has been missing.

Head coach Mark Stoops is not worried about the availability of this big offseason addition.

“Nothing major,” Stoops told reporters on Saturday. “Knock on wood, he should be back Monday.”

The former top-100 recruit in the 2022 high school cycle picked Kentucky over Arkansas and Florida State after he entered the transfer portal in December. Expectations were high for this mid-year addition. On Monday, offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan told folks at the Lexington Kickoff Luncheon much of the passing game will “go through Kendrick Law” in 2025. Not having him on the field was notable.

But Stoops and the Kentucky program is not worried. Sometimes this happens during fall camp but Kentucky needs Law out there on the field.

“You can tell when you get down a few wide receivers. They do a lot of running. The first two days it was really hot. Yesterday and today it was beautiful,” Stoops said. “They get down a little bit and it compounds on us but we’ll be at full strength.”

The senior is expected to play slot receiver, be the a top option on schemed-up touches (jet sweeps, screens, reverses), and serve as the starting kickoff returned. Kentucky is counting on Kendrick Law to carry a big load. The Cats must keep him healthy and get him on the field when the games begin.

Luckett’s Scouting Notebook: Kendrick Law

Over at KSR+, I put together scouting write-ups on each of Kentucky’s transfer additions from the offseason after watching film and collecting data. This is my breakdown of Kendrick Law.

The former top-100 recruit spent three seasons at Alabama. Law was never a top receiver for the Crimson Tide but was always part of the rotation playing inside and out. Brings kick return experience to Lexington. Projects to play the slot position.

Law is a wideout with a rocked-up build. Could use improvement getting in and out of breaks. Was a factor for the Tide in the jet sweep game and looks comfortable with the ball in his hands as runner. Shows some YAC creation out of the short passing game due to strength and ability to run through tackles. North/south runner in the open field. Owns absolute tenacity as a blocker and can bury defensive backs.

True slot receiver with a physical play style. Run-and-catch wideout who can consistently turn short passes into efficient gains.
