Kentucky saw just two players exhaust their eligibility this season — Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence, both of which were fifth-year seniors. Amoore spent all five years of her collegiate career playing for Kenny Brooks, while Lawrence had just one year with him.

Regardless, the love that Brooks has for each of them is boundless.

“They were everything,” Brooks told KSR in his interview on The Memorial Memo. “They were consummate professionals the way they handled their business so that the younger players could follow. Not only were they the leaders on the floor, they led in a way that really made everyone want to follow them. Then, they took it to the locker room, and undoubtedly, they were the leaders in the locker room.”

That leadership that Brooks spoke of is something that will surely be missed moving forward. However, it won’t be totally gone. Some of those leadership qualities rubbed off on some of their teammates too.

“The kids learned so much from that I think that’s going to carry over,” Brooks explained. “Teonni [Key] is going to take bits and pieces of their relationship, and she’s going to become a leader for us. Clara Strack the same way, Jordan Obi, so on and so forth.”

Because of that, Brooks will always cherish Amoore and Lawrence. They set the foundation for what’s to come.

“I’ll forever be indebted to Dazia and Georgia for helping create the culture here,” he added. “They knew nothing about Kentucky. They came in here, they embraced it — embraced it in a manner that they were able to teach everyone else how to be a Wildcat.”
