It’s official: Reece Potter is a Kentucky Wildcat. UK just announced that the 7’1″ center has signed with the program after two seasons at Miami. The Lexington native and former Lexington Catholic star committed to Kentucky on Monday and was a finalist for Mr. Kentucky Basketball and the 11th Region Player of the Year in 2023. He is the 13th member of next year’s team and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

“Reece Potter is a Lexington Catholic legend,” Mark Pope said in the press release. “He is a lengthy big who has a unique combination of mobility and skill. Reece can really pass, shoot and protect the rim and fits into what we do exceptionally well. Most importantly, he truly understands what it means to wear the Kentucky jersey.”

While at Lexington Catholic, Potter served as team captain as a senior in 2022-23, averaging 17.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He originally committed to Xavier to play for Travis Steele, and decommitted to follow Steele to Miami. In two seasons with the RedHawks, Potter averaged 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per contest, shooting 45.4% from the field and an impressive 39.8% from 3-point range. Potter started 11 games during his freshman season in 2023-24 and appeared in 30 games this past year off the bench for a Miami team that went 25-9 overall and 14-4 in conference play, reaching the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship game. During the 2024-25 season, he shot 46.6% from the field and 36.7% from three-point range, totaling 22 threes.

Potter is a depth piece as far as next season’s roster is concerned, but he was in demand, fielding interest from UNC, Washington, Louisville, and UConn, among others. According to UK, Potter will be the 88th Lexington native to play for Kentucky. As he told Jacob Polacheck, being a Wildcat is a dream come true.

“I know what Big Blue Nation means to everybody in Lexington, Kentucky, and everybody in the country,” Potter said in the interview earlier this week. “The name on the front recruits itself. Putting on the blue and white has always been a dream of mine. When they called, I was ready to go immediately.”
