After a Feast Week of upsets, Kentucky is climbing the rankings. The Cats are now No. 4 in the AP Poll, up from No. 8 a week ago. It’s Kentucky’s highest ranking in the AP Poll since the start of the 2022-23 season. Kansas remains the No. 1 team in the country, followed by Auburn and Tennessee. Marquette rounds out the top five.

The rankings shakeup comes after half of the AP Top 10 lost last week. UConn, which was ranked No. 2 a week ago, fell to No. 25 after losing three games in the Maui Invitational. Gonzaga, Kentucky’s opponent on Saturday, fell four spots to No. 7. Clemson, who the Cats will face tomorrow in the SEC/ACC Challenge, received votes. Eight SEC teams are in the Top 25, three in the top four. Arkansas, previously No. 19, is no longer ranked after losing to Illinois.

While several top teams stumbled last week, Kentucky cruised to wins over Western Kentucky and Georgia State. The Cats are now 7-0, the best start for the program since the 2016-17 season. Kentucky leads the country in scoring (96.7 points per game), ranks No. 2 in scoring margin (28 points), and No. 3 in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.08).

This week, the competition steps up considerably. Before heading to Seattle to play No. 7 Gonzaga, the Cats travel to Clemson. The Tigers are 7-1 this season, their lone loss being at Boise State.
