Kentucky baseball adds Louisville catcher through transfer portal

Nick Mingione is adding a former Louisville player to his 2026 roster.
On Saturday morning, catcher Tagger Tyson announced his commitment to the Kentucky baseball program. A rising redshirt sophomore, Tyson hit .296 for the Cardinals this past season to go along with 14 RBIs, 10 doubles, one triple, and one home run. He was primarily a backup catcher at Louisville before entering the lineup in March due to an injury to the starter ahead of him.
“Every conversation (with Kentucky), I was like ‘man, these guys are so easy to talk to.’ They really know what they’re doing and they know the game on top of being great people,” Tyson told Derek Terry of the Bat Cats Central. “I thought it’s exactly the kind of fit I’m looking for in my next school to help me get better and have a fun time winning.”

Tyson did not see any action for the Cardinals during his first year on campus in 2024. However, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound native of South Carolina appeared in 33 games in 2025 while helping Louisville advance to the College World Series last month. He’s currently in his second season in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Cotuit Kettleers.
Tyson, who will have three years of college eligibility remaining, is the 12th portal addition this offseason for Mingione and Co.
