Kentucky Baseball at No. 23 in Way Too Early Top 25 Rankings
The 2024 college baseball season may have just ended a month ago, but it’s never too early for some Top 25 rankings.
Baseball America released its 2025 Way Too Early Top 25 Rankings this week, with Kentucky sitting at No. 23.
The Cats are just one of 11 SEC teams featured, including No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Florida, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 7 defending National Champion Tennessee, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 11 Georgia, No. 16 Mississippi State, No. 17 South Carolina, No. 18 Vanderbilt, and No. 19 Texas (yes, Texas).
After winning a program record 46 games and making it to the Men’s College World Series for the first time in 2024, Kentucky finished at No. 3 in the Top 25 Rankings, its highest finish in program history.
However, the roster from that team is nearly depleted. Nick Mingione’s team will be returning just 24% of at-bats and 24% of its innings pitched from the 2024 roster.

It’s been a rollercoaster of an offseason, as the Cats brought in 19 players from the Transfer Portal, but five were selected in the 2024 MLB Draft and won’t even suit up for Kentucky next season.
Catcher Devin Burkes, outfielder James McCoy, and right-handed pitcher Robert Hogan highlight the returning pieces from the Men’s College World Series squad.
Along with those anchor pieces, the Cats brought in some exciting pieces from the Transfer Portal such as Milwaukee transfer outfielder Carson Hansen (2024: 55 GP, 203 AB, .315 BA, 25 2B, 11 HR, 63 RBI), Illinois State transfer infielder Luke Lawrence (2024: 44 GP, 198 AB, .338 BA, 11 2B, 2 HR, 40 RBI), and Indiana State right-handed pitcher Simon Gregersen (2024: 24 GP, 1-1, 4.86 ERA, 37 IP, 43 K, 21 BB).
It’s obviously way too early to tell what Kentucky and other teams around the country will look like when the season starts next February, but rankings are always fun to follow along with.
