Kentucky Baseball controls SEC destiny

With just six regular season conference games remaining, Kentucky’s dreams of just a second ever SEC Regular Season crown are becoming more and more real.
Kentucky currently sits atop the Southeastern Conference with an 18-6 record, one game ahead of Arkansas (17-7) and Tennessee (17-7). Texas A&M is just behind Arkansas and Tennessee with a 16-8 record. Mississippi State (14-10), Georgia (13-11) and South Carolina (13-11) aren’t mathematically eliminated from winning the SEC crown yet either, although that would be highly unlikely.
With just six games remaining, the Cats will need to finish with at least one more win than Arkansas and Tennessee down the stretch to claim sole possession of first place.
Luckily, Nick Mingione’s team is set up rather nicely to do so.
Kentucky is the lone team among the seven programs still alive that will not play a ranked opponent in its final two series. The Cats travel to Gainesville for a clash with Florida this weekend, before heading back to Lexington next week for its regular season finale against recently unranked Vanderbilt, who is just 1-6 in its last seven SEC games.

Coincidentally, Kentucky’s last two opponents (Florida and Vanderbilt) will both be coming off series vs. Tennessee, the No. 1 team in the nation. If Kentucky goes 2-4 over its final six games, it would match its SEC record from 2006, the lone year they were crowned SEC co-Regular Season champions. Just going .500 over its final six games (21-9) would set the record for the best conference record in program history
Kentucky’s march to glory begins Friday at 1:00 p.m. in its series opener at Florida. These final two weeks will surely be a whirlwind, setting up for a nice appetizer before the SEC Tournament kicks off May 21 in Hoover, Alabama.
